Employment Paralegal, Los Angeles

The employment paralegal position provides direct support to the Company’s in-house legal team, primarily with regards to employment law, in an exciting and fast paced atmosphere. This is a non-litigation position.

Job Functions

  • Prepare responses to subpoenas and employee requests.
  • Help maintain budget for litigation matters.
  • Ensure files are kept updated and organized.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to analyze documents for accuracy.
  • Must be an expert in federal, state, and municipal labor laws/regulations, with proven working knowledge of discrimination, harassment, wage and hour and compliance, including agency familiarity: EEOC, DFEH, DLSE, DIR, DOL
  • Familiarity with writing policy; knowledge of HR terminology and principles a plus
  • Strong ability to handle multiple internal clients with numerous and varying needs.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to digest, analyze, and effectively interpret laws and regulations in a manner consistent with internal HR Teams’ needs
  • Adaptable to changing priorities; flexibility is key to success in our start-up environment
  • Ability to quickly troubleshoot issues and provide solutions
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office software products including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint; Google docs experience preferred.
  • Assists in the preparation of legal documents such as service and supplier contracts, initial and amended articles of incorporation/organization, LLC operating agreements, purchase and sale agreements, and annual reports for approval and use by the legal department.
  • Assist with HR/labor dispute and other matters.
  • Legal Research and analysis.
  • Draft sufficient memos and letters.
  • Performs clerical duties such as scheduling appointments, providing information to callers, assisting with email correspondences, and task management.
  • Assists in the real estate and corporate acquisition closing processes.
  • Assists with intellectual property filings and maintenance.
  • Files correspondence and legal documents using company web-based filing system.
  • Provide regular updates regarding relevant local, state, and federal laws effecting company business.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree
  • 3+ years employment paralegal experience in a law firm setting (or applicable in-house setting). Specialized knowledge or skill(s)
  • Microsoft office (excel, word, powerpoint, etc)
  • Medium to big firm experience
  • Excellent customer service skill
  • Certificate of completion or degree from a paralegal certificate education program or other comparable post-secondary institution.
  • Have interpersonal skills to deal effectively with all business contacts

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Working Conditions

This position spends most of her/his time sitting or standing in an office

  • Essential physical requirements, such as climbing, standing, stooping, or typing.
  • Physical effort/lifting, such as sedentary up to 20 pounds;
  • Indicate if required to work weekends, nights, or be on-call as a regular part of the job.
  • This is a full-time position, and hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 6 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift or move office products and supplies, up to 20 pounds.)
